Merry Christmas!

The entire Australia, Sydney South Mission gathered together December 23rd for a Christmas Dinner. President and Sister Lew front, just right of center. Can you find Josh? It’s like a game of “Where’s Waldo?” (Hint: He’s just right of center about two-thirds of the way back.)

Our family was able to talk to Josh via Skype for about an hour on our Christmas night. It was so good to see him, he looks so happy! He told us a little about the mission-wide Christmas Conference and dinner that was held on December 23rd for all of the missionaries in the Sydney South Mission. Apparently it was a crazy few days of traveling back and forth for that. Then he and his companion spent some time on Christmas Day at the branch mission leader’s home. He said he had a good Christmas and was really appreciative of the jar of Nutella that we sent him in his Christmas package. He was able to give us a look out of the window while we were skyping and it looked beautiful; the sky was a bright blue and the trees were lush and green.

Josh is enjoying the work and making some progress with new investigators. He loves Merimbula but believes he will probably be transferred from the area soon as he has been there since arriving in Australia. He says he’d like to stay though and that he loves it there. A few days after Christmas a package from him arrived for our family. He sent each one of us a giant Cadbury chocolate bar. He had told us that the chocolate in Australia is really good and a bit different from home and he is right! We also learned we have been pronouncing Merimbula and Canberra wrong; he tried to give us a lesson. When he wants to, he can speak with a great Australian accent, and even when he’s not trying, we could hear a bit of an Aussie accent and use of the native words! We think it’s adorable!
